September is "Shop Your Local Yarn Store Month"
September is a great month to demonstrate your support of your local yarn shop (LYS).   You can help them jump start their sales after the slow summer months, and do your part to make sure they stay around for years to come.  For a limited time, get a free pattern from Knitting Matters when you spend $40 in a LYS.  Read the details here

Many of us enjoy the wide selection of yarns available to us from online sellers, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.  But I believe we should also remember to patronize our LYS as much as possible too.  After all, that's where you can touch the yarns and see their true colors before you buy.  And you can socialize with other knitters and take classes there.

So please remember to visit your LYS in September (as well as throughout the year).
Lifetime List of LYS Visited
You know how birdwatchers have "lifetime lists" of the birds they've seen?  I've begun keeping a similar list of LYS I've been able to shop in over the past several years.  See my list here and maybe you'll be inspired to start your own list.  Part of my travel planning always includes a list of nearby LYS that I can see while I'm in a new area.  Yarn and knitting tools make wonderful souvenirs -- you get to re-live your travels as you knit with your purchases -- how cool is that?
Have you looked at the FlexPattern and Green Knits lines lately?  They're growing....  The newest Green Knits pattern is the Rose Baby Cardigan

I'd love to hear from you:  What kinds of patterns do you want to see?  Do you have a favorite yarn you'd like to see used in a pattern?  Just drop me a line!

Sincerely,
Kim Smith
